The Randy 2007. I also use a drop clutch in combination with the Randy and with the Randy on and drop clutch released all I have to do to engage the Randy position is hit the Hi Hat pedal once to turn on the Randy. I have used various versions of it for getting that Led Zeppelin "Rock and Roll" Hi Hat sound while being able to free up my left foot to play double bass pedals. Really works well when the Guitar player takes off on a guitar solo and cranks his volume way up there.
The Hi Hats cut through and are loud when in the on position of the Randy.
The clamps below are sold in all drum shops and are manufactured by Pearl, Gibraltar etc.
You can simply go to a hardware store and buy a brass quarter inch thick rod, bend a loop on one end to go into one clamp and buy a flat washer that has a wide washer surface and clamp that into the other clamp.
If you do not have a memory clamp the top clamp can be used as one and of course the Hi Hat locking mechanism that secures the top tube to the bottom tube, should be loosened.
The Randy in the OFF position with top Hi Hat tube resting on the memory clamp and top clamp with rod through the washer hole.
Lift the Top clamp up and pull over just a bit so the rod rests on the wide washer surface of the washer clamped into the top clamp.
The Randy is in the ON position with top Hi Hat tube upper clamp resting on the washer surface instead of through the washer hole.
Simply hit or shove the top clamp, which allows for the top clamp and tube to fall back down with the rod providing alignment through the washer hole.
The adjustment of how close you want your cymbals can be accomplished by moving either clamp until the desired position is obtained. Or just the bottom clamp if you do not have a memory clamp or chose to use the top clamp as a memory clamp.
Naturally your foot should be off the pedal.
The Pearl clamps are the best looking and have a groove in them to position and hold the washer.
